Thank  you  for  your  application  for  access  to  information  on  the  number  of 
people living on board via e-mail of 18 November 2018 (Sunday) which was received 
by  the  Marine  Department  on  19  November  (Monday).    I  am  writing  to  give  you  a 
consolidated reply as follows –   
 
 
As of today, there are 14 typhoon shelters and 11 yacht and boat clubs in Hong 
Kong.    You may wish to note that the numbers of typhoon shelters and yacht and boat 
clubs are also retrievable from the departmental website1.     
 
 
Meanwhile,  you  may  wish  to  note  that  pursuant  to  the  Merchant  Shipping 
(Local  Vessels)  (Dwelling  Vessels)  Regulation  (Cap  548  sub  leg  A),  no  person  shall 
use a vessel as a dwelling vessel within Hong Kong waters unless a licence has been 
issued  in  respect  of  the  vessel  before  the  commencement  of  the  regulation  in  2007.   
As  of  today,  there  are  four  licensed  dwelling  vessels  in  Hong  Kong  and  they  are 
moored at the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter.
