Appendix 5
Assessment Criteria of a PLB Vehicle to be Retrofitted with Safer Seats
The condition of the body structure of a PLB depended on its age and use. Body conditions
that do not meet the following criteria should be repaired, and parts not up to the standard
should be renewed before the safer seat retrofitting work is to proceed.
a.) Floor structure like outriggers, cross members, longitude members, brackets and
anchorages should be in good condition without corrosion. Weakened structure should
be replaced.
b.) Body frame structure like side pillars, longitude members, diagonals, brackets and
anchorages should be in good condition without corrosion.
c.) Floor is also an important part contributing to the strength of seat anchorages. Floor
should be examined at all locations to ascertain that there is no noticeable deflections
while a person stands or sits on it, no cracks or breaks in their fiber structure. The floor
wood is not rotten or swollen. The floor should be renewed or repaired wholly or
partially to remove the defects found.
