Dear Security Bureau,

I would be grateful if you could provide the following information:

(1) How many appeals/petitions were received, determined, and allowed, respectively, by the Torture Claims Appeal Board (TCAB) in the forth quarter of 2019.

(2) Of the 9 non-refoulement claims that were substantiated in the forth quarter of 2019, how many were substantiated by the TCAB?

(3) How many outstanding appeals/petitions relating to non-refoulement claims were there before the TCAB as of 31 December 2019?

Torture Claims Appeal Board in the forth quarter of 2019. Our reply is

(a) Number of appeals received: 288
(b) Number of appeals concluded: 1 108
(c) Number of appeals allowed: 9 (all are appeals against decisions of the
Immigration Department rejecting a non-refoulement claim)
(d) Number of appeals pending determination as at 31 December 2019: 3 241
