Arrest/conviction/prosecution data request

The request was partially successful.

Dear Hong Kong Police Force Sham Shui Po District,

Can you please send your arrest statistics of refugees (non-refoulement claimants) from your district. Specifically arrests, convictions and prosecution statistics if you have them. The most complete yearly statistics for every full year you have data going back to 2005 would be very useful. Your overall statistics on arrests versus convictions would also be useful to put this in context as well, so can you also provide these more general figures too?

As this request is being made digitally, I'm happy to take digital files of more general statistics and mine them myself if you don't have data to hand of that level of granularity.

Yours faithfully,

Scott Edmunds

Hong Kong Police Force Sham Shui Po District

Dear Mr Edmunds,

I refer to your email dated 28 July 2016 requesting for several kinds of
crime statistics of the Sham Shui Po District.

Please be advised that we keep the arrest figure of non-refoulement
claimants from 2014 onwards only. There is however no breakdown of
prosecution and conviction. Below please find the available figures for
your information.

2014: 69
2015: 126
2016 (Jan - Jun): 23

For the total arrest figures (i.e. regardless of the identity status):-

2014: 211
2015: 267
2016 (Jan - Jun): 160

Same as the figure of non-refoulement claimants, there is no breakdown of
prosecution and conviction in our crime statistics.

Should you have further enquiry, please feel free to contact me. Thank you
very much.

Dear Michelle/HK Police Force Sham Shui Po District,

Many thanks for replying so quickly. If you don't have prosecution and conviction statistics, do you know which department might be able to help with that? Or if the legal society has this data?

Very useful to know arrest statistics at least. Do you have this broken down into specific nationalities of the people arrested? And how many were specifically for immigration offences, and how many for other offences?

Yours faithfully,

Scott Edmunds

Dear Michelle/Hong Kong Police Force Sham Shui Po District,

This is great data, thank you. Unfortunately this platform messes the formatting up a little so I can't quite figure out the columns. Could you send this data again either attached as a PDF, or send it to my email address ([email address])?

Dear Michelle/Hong Kong Police Force Sham Shui Po District,

Many thanks, the PDF is working perfectly. Very useful, but final point to clarify. Do you count Employment offences under "Immigration offences" or "Other offences"? Is it possible to get the Other offences broken down a bit further to what they were? Or at least put into context as to how many are Employment offences if that is counted there?

Yours faithfully,

Scott Edmunds
