The request was successful.

Dear University Grants Committee Secretariat,

In light of Science Europe's initiative for the voluntary international alignment of research data management policy, does the UGC have any policy regarding data management plans, and any plants to adopt these international core research data management requirements by the time they plan to roll out these scheme in 2019?

University Grants Committee Secretariat

Dear Mr Edmunds,

Thank you for your email below.

In 2016, the Research Grants Council (RGC) reviewed its open access policy
and agreed to adopt the following measures to further encourage open
access to research outputs of projects funded under the research funding
schemes administered by the RGC starting from the 2016/17 academic year -

(a)        the Principal Investigators (PIs) should be encouraged to
include in their research completion reports the data repositories where
research data of their projects can be accessed and shared; and

(b)        the PIs should be required to include in the project completion
reports the URL links to the university repositories or the publishers'
websites so that the public can have quick and easy access to the
manuscripts or journal articles (though the public may be required to
subscribe at the publishers' websites).

Universities are also encouraged to improve the infrastructural support
for publication and data sharing purposes.
The RGC recognizes the need to encourage local academics to share research
data and would keep its access policy under constant review so as to get
in line with the development of academic research.
