Data of haelth management function part in e-Health app

Z.Jiayi made this Freedom of Information request to Food and Health Bureau

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

We're waiting for Z.Jiayi to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Food and Health Bureau,

This is a student study group from Baptist University taking a General Education course for undergraduates in which students investigate various government policies and projects. Our team is doing the project related to the health management function in e-Health application.

We’d like to explore how the app could import records automatically from third-party health apps and health devices.
1. Does the app allow automatic import of health records from a third-party app such as Huawei sports health which is the third application for personalized care?
2. Does the eHealth team plan to develop such features in the near future? If so please provide more information.
3. Does the app allow automatic import of health records from monitoring devices For example, Apple care can get users’ health status through Apple watch?

It seems that info available on the page is for the patients with general health conditions without personalization based on the specific conditions (e.g. info for type 2 diabetes patients). Does the FHB plan to offer more personalized health info in the near future? Does the FHB plan to develop a health information module within the app?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Yours sincerely

Dear Z. Jiayi,
Thank you for your email dated 3 October 2021 enquiring about the
Electronic Health Record Sharing System (eHealth) and the 醫健通eHealth
App (App).
The App was launched in January 2021.  As of end-September 2021, over 1.6
million users downloaded the App.  Monthly figure of active users or
average number of times used the App by active users is not available.
As of end-September 2021, around 123 000 blood pressure and 20 000 blood
glucose records are documented via the Health Management Module of the App
respectively.  Monthly usage figure about the App is not available.
Currently, users may input their blood pressure and blood glucose levels
in the App.  The blood pressure and blood glucose records entered by the
users in the App will not be uploaded to eHealth, but users could view
their own records documented in the App and/or generate reports through
the App for sharing to their healthcare providers as detailed in the
following paragraph.  The feasibility and timeframe for sharing data
collected from the Health Management Module of the App with eHealth is
being explored.
The health management report generated is based on the blood
pressure/pulse and blood glucose records documented by the App user.
Apart from displaying the records in table format, values of systolic
pressure, diastolic pressure, pulse and blood glucose records could also
be displayed in line graphs or bar charts for easy reference and therefore
enabling easy tracking of health progress over time and trend analysis.
Samples of the report generated are appended below for reference please.
[1]cid:[email protected]
[2]cid:[email protected]
The App provides a platform to manage the health data and monitor the
health status or conditions of the user and/or their family member(s).
The users may download and share the reports with the healthcare
providers by showing the print-out or emailing the softcopy, etc. for
reference.  All members of the general public are welcome to download the
App and make use of various features to manage their own and family
members’ health anytime and anywhere.
The App neither detects the health data collected nor initiates alert.
The App also does not allow automatic import of health records from
third-party App or monitoring devices.
Under the “Health Programme” and “Health News” functions of the App, users
could obtain public health information and news, as well as access
information about various Government Public-Private Partnership Programmes
and public health programmes.  We will continuously review and enhance the
existing functions of the App and explore new features at appropriate
time.
For more details and latest development about eHealth, please visit our
website ([3]www.ehealth.gov.hk).

We’d like to explore how the app could import records automatically from
third-party health apps and health devices.

1. Does the app allow automatic import of health records from a
third-party app such as Huawei sports health which is the third
application for personalized care?

2. Does the eHealth team plan to develop such features in the near future?
If so please provide more information.

3. Does the app allow automatic import of health records from monitoring
devices For example, Apple care can get users’ health status through Apple
watch?

It seems that info available on the page is for the patients with general
health conditions without personalization based on the specific conditions
(e.g. info for type 2 diabetes patients). Does the FHB plan to offer more
personalized health info in the near future? Does the FHB plan to develop
a health information module within the app?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Yours sincerely

Dear Food and Health Bureau,

This is a student study group from Baptist University taking a General
Education course for undergraduates in which students investigate various
government policies and projects. Our team is doing the project related to
the health management function in e-Health application.

We found that the app 醫健通 cannot import users’ physical data(blood

e-Health may need more data like blood pressure and glucose records.

1. Have these records been shared in e-Health? If not, is it technically
feasible to share the records in e-Health?

2. If the records are part of the eHealth, are they accessible to patients
through the e-Health app and the health management module?

3. What plans does the eHealth development team have to share the records
through eHealth with doctors and the app with patients?

The current version of health management may give a diagram to users
according to their blood pressure and blood glucose.

1. How the reports based on blood pressure and blood glucose are
generated? Please provide info about the algorithm and some report samples

2. How can the reports inform the patients on health management?

3. Is this health management module mainly for diabetes patients or
patients of other conditions?

4. Will the reports be saved in eHealth and shared with the doctors?

5. Will the system be able to detect the cases that require the
intervention of doctors and alert the patients accordingly?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Dear Z. Jiayi,
Thank you for your email dated 3 October 2021 enquiring about the
Electronic Health Record Sharing System (eHealth) and the 醫健通eHealth
We will continuously review and enhance the
existing functions of the App and explore new features at appropriate
time.

Subject:        Freedom of Information request - Data of haelth management
function part in e-Health app

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Food and Health Bureau,

This is a student study group from Baptist University taking a General
Education course for undergraduates in which students investigate various
government policies and projects. Our team is doing the project related to
the health management function in e-Health application.

Subject:        Freedom of Information request - Using Data of haelth
management function part in e-Health app

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Food and Health Bureau,

This is a student study group from Baptist University taking a General
Education course for undergraduates in which students investigate various
government policies and projects. Our team is doing the project related to
the health management function in e-Health application.

We found that the app 醫健通 cannot import users’ physical data(blood
pressure/ blood glucose/blood lipid) automatically. For this purpose,
e-Health may need more data like blood pressure and glucose records.

Yours sincerely
