Demographic information of migrant children held at TMCJH
Dear Social Welfare Department,
I am writing to make a data access request regarding the migrant children who are held at Tuen Mun Children and Juvenile Home (TMCJH). May I know, for each of the years between 2017 – 2022 (so far):
a) nationalities,
b) gender (male, female, transgender),
c) age, and
d) immigration status (overstayer, non-refoulement claimant, other categories as applicable)
of migrant (ie. non-local) children at TMCJH as a breakdown under:
I) Yearly admittances
II) End of year population
III) End of month population if possible

Thank you for your email dated 24 February 2022 seeking access to the
information regarding the migrant children who are held at Tuen Mun
Children and Juvenile Home (“TMCJH”) in each of the years between 2017 and
2022 (so far) -
(a) nationalities;
(b) gender (male, female, transgender);
(c) age; and
(d) immigration status (overstayer, non-refoulement claimant, other
categories as applicable).
Information of migrant (ie. non-local) children at TMCJH as a breakdown
under:
(I) Yearly admittances;
(II) End of year population; and
(III) End of month population if possible.
Subsequent to our interim reply to you on 1 March 2022, please note that
the Social Welfare Department (“SWD”) does not have any information
regarding items (a), (d), (II) and (III) above, only year-end figures and
the yearly admission figures of illegal immigrants aged under 18 from 2017
to 2021 are available in the attached file.
