Frequency of babies' given names in Hong Kong

Alex Viale made this Freedom of Information request to Census and Statistics Department

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Census and Statistics Department did not have the information requested.

Dear Census and Statistics Department,

I am interested in the review of common transliterations / associations btw. Chinese and English given names, and in the analysis of trends in names given by parents to their children, over time.

A large number of countries provide such statistics and trends. Examples include:
- the US: https://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/
- the UK: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationa...
- France: https://www.insee.fr/fr/statistiques/254...
etc.

Would it be possible to get access to similar data for Hong Kong, ie. the full list of given (Chinese + English) names for all newborns, year by year? (as a flat list or with frequencies)

The immigration / birth registry department redirected me to your department for this question.

Thanks in advance!

Yours faithfully,
Alex V
