Dear Immigration Department,

I am writing to make a data access request regarding the gender of detainees at Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre. May I know, in each of the years between 2010 – 2020,

a) the number of detainees admitted in each year broken down according to gender (male, female, transgender)

If a CSV or Excel format is possible, I would greatly appreciate it.

I refer to your request for access to information on 12 October 2021 and
our interim reply to you on 21 October 2021.  I hereby provide you the
following information.

Numbers of admissions to the Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre (“CIC”)
from 2010 to 2020:

Amongst the admissions to the CIC in 2020, 2,392 were male and 1,596 were
female whilst the yearly number of admission of transgender detainees in
2020 is not maintained.  The Immigration Department ("ImmD") does not
maintain the requested breakdown information of detainees from 2010 to
2019.

Note 1: The ImmD has taken over the management of the CIC from the
Correctional Services Department since 15 April 2010. The above table
covers the relevant figures of the CIC for the period from 15 April 2010
to 31 December 2020 only.
