Information about foreign practices/cases used as benchmarking of the carbon calculator

Phoebe Leung made this Freedom of Information request to Environmental Protection Department

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

We're waiting for Phoebe Leung to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Environmental Protection Department,

We are a group of year 3 students from Hong Kong Baptist University, who have registered for a course coded GCAP3056 “Taking a stand: Engaging in Public Discourse through Advanced Research and Writing”. We take it as an opportunity to explore the social issues and finally we choose the theme “achieving carbon neutrality in Hong Kong” as our semester project and “Low Carbon Living Calculator” is what we want to focus on. We sincerely hope that you could assist us on the project by providing relevant information.

According to our research, some countries have also launched websites that share similar nature with “Carbon Footprint Calculator of Hong Kong (CFCHK)”. We are interested in if you have cooperated with other foreign organizations to develop the software and have you referred to any foreign cases as benchmarking? Besides, have you conducted some evaluation before launching the software to get the proof that CFC could help to promote carbon neutrality and if it is worth it to do so.

Questions are sorted as follows:
1) Has the relevant department done any benchmarking/data evaluation?
2) Has the relevant department considered successful carbon calculator cases before developing the HK carbon calculator?
3) Standard of considering whether the carbon footprint is high or not.

Thank you so much for your time, and please kindly reply at your earliest convenience.

Yours faithfully,
Phoebe Leung, Betty Wang, Yoyo Yu, Krystal Huang
