Legal Aid Costs
Dear Legal Aid Department,
In relation to public costs under Civil Judicial Review matters, where under a legal aid certificate, I request the following information for the period of 01 January 2018 to 31 December 2018; (i.e. the 'relevant period'):
1. What was the total amount of costs as claimed before assessment, i.e. where claimed by relevant legal representatives? (i.e. as a sum in HK$).
2. What was the total amount of costs subsequently awarded after assessment? (as a sum in HK$); and correspondingly, what was the total amount of such reductions?
3. What was the average reduction in costs of the total (as a %), after any such assessment?
4. What was the average period of delay (in days) from costs being claimed to the following:
(i) Costs being finally assessed;
(ii) Costs being paid to relevant parties.
