Mosquito control/Ovitrap index data for Hong Kong

Scott Edmunds made this Freedom of Information request to Food and Environmental Hygiene Department

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Food and Environmental Hygiene Department did not have the information requested.

Dear Food and Environmental Hygiene Department,

We would like to study the Mosquito control/Ovitrap data for Hong Kong. Is it possible to get hold of the raw (preferably non-PDF) data you have for our research, and in particular we would like location information of the ovitraps to enable more informative analysis? You don't have to give us the exact GIS coordinates if you are worried about people finding the traps, but rounding up/down the GPS coordinates or even street/sub-district information would be better than just the district information (e.g. just saying "Tai Po" is not very useful).

Yours faithfully,

Scott Edmunds

Dear Food and Environmental Hygiene Department,

Thanks for your eventual reply to my Ovitrap query.

I'm a bit confused, as since you say "Information on street on sub-district is also not available as the selection of ovitrap locations is not based on street or sub-district.", how do the FEHD inspectors find the 52 ovitraps they have around the city? There has to be some form of address or location information listed somewhere internally for the people implementing it otherwise this entire mosquito control scheme is fiction.

We need this data to populate the Mosquito Alert website (see: http://mosquitoalert.com/) so I'll try to get in touch with Mr Kwan.

Yours faithfully,
