Number of children detained

Annie Li made this Freedom of Information request to Immigration Department

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Immigration Department did not have the information requested.

Dear Immigration Department,

I am writing to request the number of persons aged below 18 placed in immigration detention in each of the years from 2016 to 2018, with a breakdown into these age ranges:
- 0 to 3
- 4 to 7
- 8 to 11
- 12 to 15
- 16 and 17

Among these children, how many were unaccompanied and how many were separated from their parents or guardians? How many were non-refoulement claimants?

I would also like to know the legislative provisions pursuant to which they were detained.

Regards,
Annie Li
