Dear Immigration Department,

I am writing to request the number of persons aged below 18 placed in immigration detention in each of the years from 2016 to 2018, with a breakdown into these age ranges:
- 0 to 3
- 4 to 7
- 8 to 11
- 12 to 15
- 16 and 17

Among these children, how many were unaccompanied and how many were separated from their parents or guardians? How many were non-refoulement claimants?

I would also like to know the legislative provisions pursuant to which they were detained.

Regards,
Annie Li

Dear Ms Lo,

Thank you for your reply. I would like to enquire why such data is not maintained by your Department. As I understand, your Department has access to the identity documents or other information that shows the age of the persons you detain.
