Dear Census and Statistics Department,

I am a Ph.D. student from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. I a currently doing research on transportation behaviors for my dissertation. I would like to extract specific statistics from the Population Census 2021.

I would like to obtain the Number of Domestic Households by Household Size, Monthly Domestic Household Income, and Number of Children Aged Under 15, grouped by Large Subunit Groups.

At the Interactive Data Dissemination Service website (https://idds.census2021.gov.hk/app/idds....), I selected "Domestic Households (Number)" as statistics, but I can only choose two variables (e.g., Household Size, Monthly Domestic Household Income) as classification and set Large Subunit Group as the geographical classification. I could not and one more variable (e.g., the Number of Children Aged Under 15) to produce the three-dimensional dataset. Could you please extract that data from the raw household data of the 2021 Population Census?

To be specific, I expect the output data as an Excel file. Each row should represent one Large Subunit Group, and the Number of Domestic Households on the columns are counted by three-dimensional classifications (i.e., Household Size, Monthly Domestic Household Income, and Number of Children Aged Under 15). At the Interactive Data Dissemination Service website , Household size has 3 categories (1; 2; 3 and over), Monthly Domestic Household Income has 4 categories (Less than 10,000; 10,000 - 19,999; 20,000 - 39,999; 40,000 and over), Number of Children Aged Under 15 has 4 categories (0; 1; 2; 3+). Therefore, the number of domestic households should be presented in 3*4*4=48 columns (classifications) for each Large Subunit Group.

Thank you for your help in advance!

Yours faithfully,

Xinying TAN

Census and Statistics Department

Dear TAN,

Regarding your request for statistical information on the domestic
households by household size, monthly domestic household income and number
of children aged under 15 grouped by Large Subunit Group for year 2021, we
regret that the required statistics could not be made available from the
results of the 2021 Population Census owing to precision considerations.

It is an established practice since 1961 for Hong Kong to conduct a
population census once every 10 years, and a by-census in the middle of
the intercensal period.  The latest round is the 2021 Population Census.
No separate statistical information are available for the years without
conducting a population census/by-census.

Should you have any questions about population censuses/by-censuses,
please feel free to contact Demographic Statistics Section (2) of this
department (Enquiry service: (852) 3903 6944; Facsimile: (852) 2716 0231;
