Number of non-refoulement claimants held at Mau Tau Kok Detention Centre
Dear Immigration Department,
I am writing to make a data access request about the number of non-refoulement claimants held at Mau Tau Kok Detention Centre. May I know, in each of the years between 2018-20:
a) the detainee population on 31 December of each year and of those how many are non-refoulement claimants
b) the number detainees admitted in each year and of those how many are non-refoulement claimants

interim reply to you on 26 March 2021. The requested information is
provided below.
(a) Detainee population on 31 December of each year at the Ma Tau Kok
Detention Centre (MTKDC)
Year 2018 2019 2020
No. of persons 22 10 43
The number of detainees at MTKDC as at 31 December 2019 and 2020 who had
lodged non-refoulement claims were 1 and 19 respectively. The Immigration
Department (ImmD) did not maintain the corresponding figure as at end of
2018.
(b) Number of admissions to the MTKDC in each year
Year 2018 2019 2020
No. of admissions 5069 3936 3893
The ImmD does not maintain the requested breakdown information of
detainees.
