The request was partially successful.

Dear Immigration Department,

I am writing to make a data access request about the number of people detained at the airport. May I know, in each of the years between 2018-20:

a) the number of people detained at the airport

b) of those in (a) how many were denied entry and returned for immigration reasons to their home country

c) of those in (a) how many tried to claim protection as Non-Refoulement Claimants

If a CSV or Excel format is possible, I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise PDF or similar would be fine as well.

Yours faithfully,

Surabhi Chopra

Dear Immigration Department,

Thank you for your response. I would like to clarify:

Does ‘cases’ refer to individual persons? (Ex. Would one family be classified as one ‘case’?)

Furthermore, I would like to ask for additional information regarding the number of people detained at the airport. May I know, in each of the years between 2010 – 2020:

A) the number of persons refused permission to land at the Airport Control Point

B) of A), the number of persons returned immediately without being detained at the airport

C) of A), the number of persons detained at the airport, broken down by length of detention in:

I) days

Ii) weeks, or

Iii) categories of: less than one week, more than one week, more than 2 weeks, more than one month, more than two months, more than three months.

Thank you for your help with this inquiry. If a CSV or Excel format is possible, I would greatly appreciate it.

Yours faithfully,

Surabhi Chopra
