Request for data on monthly EV registrations between 2012-2022 and the distribution of EV registration numbers among Tertiary Planning Units (TPUs))
Dear Transport Department,
I would like to apply for the monthly EV registration data in the past 10 years between 2012 and 2022. I have searched on the TD's "MONTHLY TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORT DIGEST" database (at "https://www.td.gov.hk/en/transport_in_ho...), which provides vehicle registration data. However, I could only find the monthly EV registration data in the 2022 from Table 4.1(a) . The vehicle registration data in previous years are missing data on EV registrations. Could you please extrat the monthly EV registration numbers from 2012-2022 in Hong Kong?
Moreover, I would like to know about the spatial distribution of EVs in Hong Kong. From TD's EV registration dataset, could you generate the annual EV registration numbers for each of the 292 Tertiary Planning Units (TPUs)? Please refer to the dividion of TPUs here: "https://portal.csdi.gov.hk/geoportal/#me.... As I know, registrators have to provide information about their residing distric or address when they registor their car. Therefore, I am wondering that TD should have the EV numbers of each TPU or District in Hong Kong. I hope you could provide this EV spatial distribution data from 2018-2022, if not available, the most updated data in 2022 would be acceptable as well. If you are not able to generate the EV registration numbers at the TPU level, what else statistics or data could you provide to reflect the spatial distribution of EVs in Hong Kong?
Yours faithfully,
Xinying TAN

Dear Xinying,
I refer to your request for access to information dated 20 April 2023.
Our reply is as follows:
Please refer to Table 4.4 of Monthly Traffic and Transport Digest
published on the website of the Transport Department ("TD") on a monthly
basis concerning the figures for registration and licensing of vehicles
with breakdown by fuel type:
[1]https://www.td.gov.hk/en/transport_in_ho...
In addition, we would like to reiterate that according to the current
practice, applicant is required to provide address information to TD when
submitting a licensing application. Data collected is for the purpose of
facilitating communication between TD and the applicant on licensing
matters. TD does not maintain the address data with grouping under
Tertiary Planning Unit ("TPU") in Hong Kong in our system. Therefore, we
are unable to provide the number of registered electric vehicles by TPU or
spatial distribution as requested.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Miss Yoanna LO
