Substantiated non-refoulement claims of children

Annie Li made this Freedom of Information request to Immigration Department

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Immigration Department,

I would like to know how many of the 83 claimants whose torture/non-refoulement claims have been substantiated between the commencement of the enhanced administrative mechanism (late 2009) and March 2017 were aged below 18 when their claims were made, disaggregated by the year of substantiation of the claim and nationality.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Annie Li

Thank you very much. It is very useful. We are glad to know that 12 children's claims were substantiated in the first two quarters this year.

I would also like to know among the 3,218 claims determined in 2016 and 2,033 claims determined in the first half of 2017, how many were claims made by adults (at the time of claim determination) and how many were made by children (at the time of claim determination)? We would appreciate it if you could disaggregate the numbers into 2016 and the first half of 2017.

Thanks a lot,
Annie

Thank you for your reply. May I clarify- so for substantiated claims data is kept on the age of claimants at the time of determination but not for rejected claims?

Annie
