The current average time taken for handling each of the non-refoulement claim by Immigration Department and Torture Claims Appeal Board
Dear Security Bureau,
May I know what is the current average time taken for handling each of the non-refoulement claim by Immigration Department and Torture Claims Appeal Board?
Yours faithfully,
Stacy
Dear Stacy,
I refer to your request for access to information on 10 January 2022. In
consultation with the Immigration Department (ImmD) and the Torture Claims
Appeal Board (TCAB), the information is provided as below, please.
As regards the time for handling each non-refoulement claim, ImmD ensures
that the screening procedures are highly efficient and achieve high
standards of fairness through flexible staff deployment and optimised
workflow. ImmD’s handling time for each claim (from commencement of the
screening procedures to determination by ImmD) was shortened from about 25
weeks on average at the early implementation of the Unified Screening
Mechanism to the current average of about 10 weeks. For appeal/petition
cases received and determined by TCAB in 2021, the average processing time
was about 5 months.
