The request was partially successful.

Dear Census and Statistics Department,

I would like to know the number of immigrants to Hong Kong for the last decade from all countries.

Alos, I would like to know which district or estate they stay in Hong Kong, including where they move to. I would like to gather the population distribution territory-widely. I do not require anything sensitive and private but just a broad picture of where they distribute in Hong Kong.

Thank you!
Yours faithfully,
Celia Lai

Dear Census and Statistics Department,

Thank you for replying the request!

In my previous request, I am asking for at least a decade for on the population statistics in 2016. Before sending out the request, I had tried digging out the statics before the handover yet failed. I am now doing a study which requires to generate a trend on the immigration population distribution in Hong Kong. Could you provide me with the statistics from 1995 to 2010 please?

Yours faithfully,

Dear Ms Lai,

I refer to your follow-up request for the number of immigrants to Hong
Kong and distribution of districts that they stayed and your clarification
made on 9 October 2017.  Our reply is provided below.

Regarding your enquiry, please note that statistical information about the
number of immigrants to Hong Kong is not available from the results of
population census/by-census.  Instead, the table “Population and
Population (Excluding Foreign Domestic Helpers) by District Council
District, Place of Birth and Duration of Residence in Hong Kong, 2001,
2006 and 2011” is provided (File name : IDDS Table (01C-11C).xlsx) for
your consideration.  The table is obtained from the Interactive Data
Dissemination Service (IDDS) on the 2011 Population Census Website
([1]http://www.census2011.gov.hk/en/build-yo...).

Besides, the table “Population and Population (Excluding Foreign Domestic
Helpers) by District Board District, Place of Birth and Duration of
Residence in Hong Kong, 1996” is not readily available and instead, a
customised statistical table can be compiled based on the results of the
1996 Population By-census for you at a charge.  The charge is set to cover
all additional staff efforts, computer time and material costs incurred in
preparing the table.  In order to safeguard data confidentiality and to
avoid individual person, household or quarters can be identified, grouping
of classification variable(s) may be adopted.  Should you require the
chargeable tabulation service, please contact our Demographic Statistics
Section (2) (Enquiry service: (852) 3903 6944 ; Facsimile: (852) 2716 0231
; E-mail: [email address]) direct .  They will then send you the
quotation and other service details for your consideration.

It is an established practice since 1961 for Hong Kong to conduct a
population census once every ten years, and a by-census in the middle of
the intercensal period.  No separate statistical information can be
provided for those years not in population census / by-census.
