Dear Correctional Services Department,

I am writing to make an information request regarding immigration detainees held at Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution (“TGCI”), in relation to a statement released by CSD in Nov 2021: https://www.info.gov.hk/gia/general/2021...

In this press release, it was stated about immigration detainees at TGCI that:
“To maintain public law and order, the CSD is currently supervising claimants who have committed serious crimes, pose security risks and are at risk of absconding or reoffending at TGCI in accordance with the relevant legislations to ensure that they do not pose any threat to the public.”

As such, I would like to ask the following questions for clarification:

1) Have all detainees at TGCI previously served sentences for criminal convictions?

2) Are any detainees at TGCI currently serving sentences for criminal convictions?

Thank you kindly for your help with this matter.

Yours faithfully,

H. Y. Fung
