I am writing to make a data access request regarding the number of complaints received in relation to immigration detention at Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre. May I know, for each of the years between 2010 – 2021,

A) the number of complaints received in relation to immigration detention at CIC, broken down by

I) gender of complainant (male, female, transgender)

II) country of origin of complainant

III) type of complaint

B) outcome of complaint

If a CSV or Excel format is possible, I would greatly appreciate it.

Dear Surabhi Chopra,
I refer to your request for access to information on 20 October 2021 and
our interim reply to you on 29 October 2021.  I hereby provide you the
following information.

The numbers of complaints received in relation to immigration detention at
the Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre (“CIC”) from 2010 to 2021 (as at
June 2021) are tabulated below:

These complaints received are mainly about services, treatment and
welfare, facilities and equipment provided by the detention institution as
well as attitude and conduct, and complaints against other
departments/organisations. No complaint was substantiated. The Immigration
Department (“ImmD”) does not maintain the requested breakdown statistics.

Note 1: The ImmD has taken over the management of the CIC from the
Correctional Services Department since 15 April 2010. The above table
covers the relevant figures of the CIC for the period from 15 April 2010
to 30 June 2021 only.
