Dear Immigration Department,

I am writing to make an information request regarding purposes / reasons of detention of migrant children (ie. non-local children) held at Tuen Mun Children and Juvenile Home (“TMCJH”). May I know,

I) Is statistical information maintained on what section of the Immigration Ordinance (Cap. 115) children at TMCJH are held under (for example, as a subcategory of end of month population, yearly admissions, etc)? For example, children who are held under Section 31 (Detention of deportee for inquiries) or Section 32 (Detention pending removal or deportation), and so on.

II) Further, is information maintained on how many migrant children held at TMCJH have their parents / carers in Hong Kong or whether they are unaccompanied in Hong Kong?

If this information is not maintained by the Immigration Department, please kindly suggest which department might be relevant. I have previously contacted the Social Welfare Department (please see here: https://accessinfo.hk/en/request/migrant...), however they have indicated this information was not under their possession.

Any relevant information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your help.

Yours faithfully,

H. Y. Fung
