by institution:
i) The number of deaths in Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre
ii) The number of deaths in Ma Tau Kok Detention Centre
iii) Other (please specify)

Thank you very much for your request for clarification. By 'institution' I
was referring to the immigration detention facilities of CIC and MTKDC.
However if possible, please also specify any past cases of deaths of
immigration detainees that have occurred in other places of detention,
such as border control points, hospitals (where a detainee was transferred
to hospital and passed away in hospital), and other places of detention
listed in the Immigration (Places of Detention) Order (Cap. 115B).

Dear Gigi Lo,
I refer to your request for access to information on 24 February 2022 and
clarification on 3 March 2022.  Further to our interim reply of 10 March
2022, our reply is provided as below.

Since the Immigration Department took over the management of the Castle
Peak Bay Immigration Centre ("CIC") from the Correctional Services
Department on 15 April 2010, as at 28 February 2022, two death cases
involving a total of two detainees at the CIC have been reported, one in
2021 and one in 2022.  On the other hand, one death case involving one
detainee has been reported at the Ma Tau Kok Detention Centre in 2019.

Regarding the 12 immigration control points listed in Schedule 3 of the
Immigration (Places of Detention) Order (Cap. 115B), the number of death
cases was only maintained since September 2021.  From September 2021 to
February 2022, there was no death case at the 12 immigration control
points.
