Expenses related to S37 of Immigration Ordinance (2021 - 2023)
Dear Immigration Department,
I am writing to make an information request regarding Section 37 of the Immigration Ordinance (Cap. 115) which stipulates that “If a person who is detained under section 32(1) pending his removal from Hong Kong under section 18 arrived in Hong Kong in a ship or aircraft, the Director of Immigration may require the owner of the ship or aircraft or his agent to pay to the Government the expense incurred by it in maintaining that person during his detention”. May I know,
1. What was the ‘detention quarter charge’ (as mentioned in this request: https://accessinfo.hk/en/request/expense...) for each financial year between 2021 – 2023?
2. How many times has this section been enforced per year in the past five years?
3. How much was paid to the Government under this Section for each year in the past five years (calendar or financial, as applicable)?
Thank you very much for your help with this inquiry.
Kind regards,
H. Y. Fung
