The request was partially successful.

Dear Immigration Department,

I am writing to make an information access request regarding the relevant procedures on provision of clothing to immigration detainees at Ma Tau Kok Detention Centre (MTKDC). May I know,

1. In what circumstances would clothing be provided by immigration staff to detainees?

2. What kind of clothing is provided (ex. Are they uniforms or casual wear)? Are these provided upon admission to detention? Please specify the types of clothing (ex. Pants, t-shirts, sweater, underwear, etc) and number of each article that is provided to detainees.

3. What is the procedure for detainees to request additional clothing? How long does it usually take to provide them the requested clothing or shoes?

4. If the clothing or shoes are not in the appropriate size, are there avenues to apply for a change in size?

Thanks very much for your help on this matter. I look forward to your response.

Yours faithfully,

Gigi Lo

Dear Gigi Lo,
I refer to your request for access to information on 28.10.2022 and our
interim reply to you on the 04.11.2022.  I hereby provide you the
following information.

Detainees at the Ma Tau Kok Detention Centre (“MTKDC”) are permitted to
wear private clothes during their detention.  For the purpose of personal
hygiene and keeping warm, detainees will upon their request(s) be issued
with clothing items (e.g. pants, t-shirts and underwear).  They may make
requests to staff of MTKDC for additional clothing which will be
considered on individual merit and provided upon approval.

I hope the information is useful to you.

Best regards,

CHAN, Tsz-ho
