Guidelines on laundry arrangements at TTG
Dear Correctional Services Department,
I am writing to make an information access request regarding the relevant procedures regarding laundry and clean clothing available to immigration detainees at Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution. May I know,
1. Are there arrangements for laundry for immigration detainees at CIC?
2. If so, how often are laundry services provided?
3. What laundry-related tools and products are provided to detainees? For example, laundry detergent and racks for drying clothes.
4. If there are relevant guidelines / procedures for the circumstances specified above, may I receive a copy of the relevant documents?
Thanks very much for your help on this matter. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Gigi Lo

Dear Correctional Services Department,
Thanks very much for your clarification question and the follow up. I would like to confirm that the original question about the laundry arrangements is pertaining to Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution (TGCI) instead of CIC.
Kind regards,
Gigi Lo
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I refer to your application for access to information under the Code on
Access to Information (“the Code”) to this Department on 28.10.2022 and
your subsequent email to us on 29.11.2022 confirming that Q.1 of your
request is referring to Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution (“TGCI”)
instead of CIC.
By virtue of rule 90 of Prison Rules (“PR”) (Cap. 234A), the

persons in custody’s clothing. All clothing items would be washed in
accordance with the prescribed schedule of TGCI. As outsourced laundry
service is provided to detainees at TGCI daily, no laundry-related tools
or detergents would be provided to them.
Since we do not have a specific guideline on the above, your request could
not be acceded to pursuant to paragraph 1.14 of the Code.
You may also wish to note that, pursuant to paragraph 1.25 of the Code,
any person who believes that a department has failed to comply with any
provision of the Code may ask the department to review the situation.
Furthermore, pursuant to paragraph 1.26 of the Code, any person who
believes that a department has failed to properly apply any provision of
the Code may also complain to The Ombudsman. The Ombudsman’s address is –
