Immigration detainees at CIC with minor dependents
Dear Immigration Department,
I am writing to make an information request regarding data held on immigration detainees at Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre (“CIC”) with minor dependents. May I know,
1) How many detainees at CIC had their children with them inside detention?
2) How many detainees at CIC had minor dependents outside of the detention facility?
3) What kind of data is maintained in relation to the above two questions? (ex. Subcategory of end of month population)

our interim reply to you on 21 February 2022. I hereby provide you with
the following information.
Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre (“CIC”) is an immigration detention
facility for detaining immigration offenders (18 years old or above) who
are awaiting repatriation/removal/deportation/final determination of their
non-refoulement claims in accordance with the Immigration Ordinance.
The Immigration Department does not maintain the requested statistical
information at the CIC.

Thank you for your reply. May I know, are there exceptional circumstances where a minor dependent would be held in CIC with their adult carer (ex. where the child is under a certain age, there is no one else to care for the child, etc)?

Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre (“CIC”) is an immigration detention
facility for detaining immigration offenders (18 years old or above) who
are awaiting repatriation/removal/deportation/final determination of their
non-refoulement claims in accordance with the Immigration Ordinance. The
Immigration Department (“ImmD”) does not maintain the requested
information of minor dependent at the CIC.
When necessary, officers of the ImmD may seek professional assistance from
and closely liaise with the relevant department and/ or institution, such
as Social Welfare Department which is responsible for, amongst others,
child welfare services.
