Dear Environmental Protection Department,
Referring to the letter to the editor published by Dr Lin Zhang (https://www.scmp.com/comment/letters/art...) raising the concern over sea water pollution that might be caused by the Japanese government's decision to dump nuclear waste water, here are the questions for the department to answer under the Code on Access to Information

1. In what ways does the department monitor the amount of radioactive particles in sea water in Hong Kong?
2. What standards does the department adopt to ensure public safety and health?
3. What protocols will the department follow if excessive amounts of radioactive particles are found in seawater in Hong Kong?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Yours faithfully,
Simon Wang

Dear Mr Lai,
Thanks for your reply. Here are my responses for your follow-up.
1. In what ways does the department monitor the amount of radioactive particles in sea water in Hong Kong?
I'll send this question to HKO myself. Thanks.

2. What standards does the department adopt to ensure public safety and health?
3. What protocols will the department follow if excessive amounts of radioactive particles are found in seawater in Hong Kong?

Could you explain what you mean when you write the department has no information regarding Q.2 and Q.3? Are you saying that there are no standards adopted by EPD regarding sea water? And there are no protocols for the EPD to follow?
Thanks.
Yours sincerely
Simon Wang
