Number of detainees held at Mau Tau Kok Detention Centre and then released
Dear Immigration Department,
I am writing to make a data access request about the number of detainees that were held at Mau Tau Kok Detention Centre and then released. May I know, in each of the years between 2018-20:
a) the number of detainees admitted per year and of those how many were released.

I refer to your request for access to information on 17 March 2021 and our
interim reply to you on 26 March 2021. I hereby provide you the following
information:
The number of admissions to the Ma Tau Kok Detention Centre (MTKDC)
between 2018 – 2020
Year 2018 2019 2020
No. of Admissions 5069 3936 3893
The MTKDC is an immigration facility for short-term detention of
immigration offenders pending inquiry, prosecution, court hearing,
transfer to other detention facilities etc.. Therefore, all detainees
admitted to MTKDC would be discharged from the centre for the said
purposes.
