Dear Inland Revenue Department,

My name is Annie Li and I am the Research and Policy Officer of Justice Centre Hong Kong, an NGO in Hong Kong that works to protect and promote the rights of asylum seekers, refugees, victims of torture, forced labour and human trafficking and other people seeking protection in Hong Kong.

I am writing to make a data request about salaries tax and profits tax paid by non-refoulement claimants. Individuals whose asylum claims or non-refoulement claims have been substantiated by the Government can apply to the Immigration Department for permission to work under the Immigration Ordinance.

I would like to know the amount of salaries tax and the amount of profits tax paid by non-refoulement claimants and mandated refugees in each of the years from 2014/15 to 2016/17, and the number of non-refoulement claimants and mandated refugees paying such tax in each of those years. If that data is not maintained, is corresponding data about recognizance form holders available?

Regards,
Annie Li
