Request for statistics on refugee mortality

Scott Edmunds made this Freedom of Information request to Hospital Authority

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Hospital Authority did not have the information requested.

Dear Hospital Authority,

Do you have mortality and morbidity rate data for non-refoulement (refugees/form-8 holder, or however you recognize the ~14,000 asylum seekers in Hong Kong) claimants using the Hong Kong compared to the Hong Kong population. Particularly statistics for women and children, but any health statistics of this population would be useful.

If you do not have this data then any advice on which government department does would be useful.

Yours faithfully,

Scott Edmunds

Enquiry (Hospital Authority), Hospital Authority

Dear Mr Edmunds,

Thank you for your Application for Access to Information dated 29 July
2019.   Please find below the Hospital Authority’s response:

The Hospital Authority (HA) does not have the mortality and morbidity rate
data for non-refoulement claimants you requested and other health
statistics about such category.  According to paragraph 1.14 of the Code
on Access to Information, the Code does not oblige departments to acquire
information not in their possession.

The HA is not able to advise on whether government departments have the
requested data.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about this
reply.

Yours sincerely,

Sandy Chu (Miss)
