(1) The number of appeals/petitions received by the Torture Claims Appeal Board (TCAB) in the fourth quarter (1 Oct - 31 Dec) of 2020;
(2) The number of appeals/ petitions determined by the TCAB in the said period;
(3) The number of appeals/ petition withdrawn or taken no further action in the said period;
(4) The number of appeals/ petition allowed by the TCAB in the said period;
(5) The number of appeals/ petition substantiated by the TCAB in the said period;
(6) The number of appeals/ petition that were pending determination before the TCAB as of end of December 2020

Dear Ms Li,

I refer to your email of 27 January 2021 requesting for provision of
information on the number of appeals/petitions ("appeals") handled by the
Torture Claims Appeal Board in the fourth quarter of 2020.  Our reply is
given as follows -

(a) Number of appeals received: 255
(b) Number of appeals determined: 390
(c) Number of appeals withdrawn: 31
(d) Number of appeals allowed: 13 (including 12 appeals against decisions
of the Immigration Department rejecting a non-refoulement claim and 1
appeal against the decision of the Immigration Department rejecting an
application for re-opening a non-refoulement claim)
(e) Number of appeals pending determination as at 31 December 2020: 1 704
