information on the number of appeals/petitions ("appeals") handled by the
Torture Claims Appeal Board in the first quarter of 2021.  Our reply is
given as follows -

(a) Number of appeals received: 293
(b) Number of appeals determined: 371
(c) Number of appeals withdrawn: 29
(d) Number of appeals allowed: 5 (appeals against decisions of the
Immigration Department rejecting a non-refoulement claim)
(e) Number of appeals pending determination as at 31 March 2021: 1 597

I would be grateful if you could provide the following information on the
Torture Claims Appeal Board/ Non-refoulement Claims Petitions Office
("TCAB/NRCPO")

(1) The number of appeals/petitions received by the TCAB/NRCPO in the
first quarter (1 Jan - 31 Mar) of 2021;
(2) The number of appeals/ petitions determined by the TCAB/NRCPO in the
said period;
(3) The number of appeals/ petition withdrawn or taken no further action
in the said period;
(4) The number of appeals/ petition allowed by the TCAB /NRCPO in the said
period;
(5) The number of appeals/ petition substantiated by the TCAB/NRCPO in the
said period;
(6) The number of appeals/ petition that were pending determination before
the TCAB/NRCPO as of end of March 2021
