Basic back-end data about the carbon calculator (Data evaluation report)

Phoebe Leung made this Freedom of Information request to Environmental Protection Department

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

We're waiting for Phoebe Leung to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Environmental Protection Department,

We are a group of year 3 students from Hong Kong Baptist University, who have registered for a course coded GCAP3056 “Taking a stand: Engaging in Public Discourse through Advanced Research and Writing”. We take it as an opportunity to explore the social issues and finally we choose the theme “achieving carbon neutrality in Hong Kong” as our semester project and “Low Carbon Living Calculator” is what we want to focus on. We sincerely hope that you could assist us on the project by providing relevant information.

According to our research, the carbon calculator website developed by the Environment Bureau is the most complete local carbon calculator that suits Hong Kong residents’ lifestyle. This carbon calculator collects personal living data from different categories, including living, travel, food as well as clothing, and it provides conclusion reports with suggestions to be more environmentally friendly, which are missed by other local carbon calculators. Therefore, in order to evaluate the effectiveness in improving carbon neutrality, it is worth having a deeper analysis on the current usage situation of this governmental carbon calculator.

Questions are sorted as follows:
1) How many people are using the carbon calculator?
2) How often do people visit the website of the carbon calculator? (What is the frequency of people visiting the website of the carbon calculator?)
3) How many people finished the whole process of the calculation?
4) How often has the government updated the carbon calculator since it was set?
5) Please provide the annual data evaluation report of the carbon calculator.

Thank you so much for your time, and please kindly reply at your earliest convenience.

Yours faithfully,
Phoebe Leung, Betty Wang, Yoyo Yu, Krystal Huang
