Original Proposal of the Carbon Calculator
Dear Environmental Protection Department,
We are a group of year 3 students from Hong Kong Baptist University, who have registered for a course coded GCAP3056 “Taking a stand: Engaging in Public Discourse through Advanced Research and Writing”. We take it as an opportunity to explore the social issues and finally we choose the theme “achieving carbon neutrality in Hong Kong” as our semester project and “Low Carbon Living Calculator” is what we want to focus on. We sincerely hope that you could assist us on the project by providing relevant information.
A. Original proposal of carbon calculator
According to our research, the carbon calculator website was developed in 2018 by the Environment Bureau to help citizens evaluate their personal carbon emissions generated in the past year. We are interested in what are the major factors that drive the government to launch the carbon calculator website and how much did the government spend in launching this website, in order to have a deeper understanding on the behind factors and the amount of resources used in developing the website.
Questions are sorted as follows:
1. How much did the government spend to develop the current carbon calculator? What is the annual maintenance cost of this carbon calculator?
2. What is the purpose/aim of developing the carbon calculator? Please refer us to the original proposal if available.
3. Please provide the algorithms and flowchart for processing the numbers from the users and producing the output for the calculator .
Yours faithfully,
Phoebe Leung, Betty Wang, Yoyo Yu, Krystal Huang
